With medicinal mud and water from the Pomorie lagoon-lake, also known as the "Holy Lake" of the ancient Greek colony Apolonia
The "Holy Lake" Soap contains medicinal mud and water from the Pomorie lagoon-lake.
The lake is a hyperhaline naturally formed lagoon situated in close vicinity to the town of Pomorie. The salt content of the lake is 70%, which is 4 times higher than sea's salt content. The curative properties of the waters and mud from the lake have been known since ancient times as it has been proved by number of archaeological findings. Thracians, Greeks and Byzantines applied here the ancient Egyptian method of treatment with mud in the open thus curing rheumatism, dermal diseases and wounds.
The most ancient data about treatment centers in these areas belongs to the times of the Thracians. In 510 B.C.a colony called Anhialo was founded over a Thracian village by the inhabitants of the Greek colony Apolonia. During the period of the Roman reign Anhialo was famous for its mineral springs. The Pomorie Lake was believed to be holy at that time. Emperors, high-ranking dignitaries and ancient philosophers came here for treatment. The lake's mud and water were considered an original source of life. Legends tell of sick people throwing coins into the lake as a sign of gratitude for being healed. Instead of that an ancient Greek master created a votive tablet as a gift to the Ladies of the Holy Lake. The tablet, dating back from II century A.D., can be seen at the Historical Museum in Bourgas. It is exactly the same effigy that is featured on the new soap "The Holy Lake", which is a way to put into use the true ancient invigorating and healing action of the Holy Lake by means of a contemporary hygienic and comforting instrument.
